Bedazzling’s Big Moment in Makeup

With minimalism taking a backseat, bedazzling is having a moment. And beauty lovers aren’t shying away from adding sparkle to their look from head to toe.

Annabelle Taurua, a beauty expert for booking platform Fresha, says consumers are injecting more personality into their beauty routines and salon bookings in this “whimsy” era of beauty.

“You might have seen people ‘whimsy-maxxing’ on social media, adding playfulness and imagination into their lifestyle and daily routine,” said Taurua. “When it comes to beauty and fashion, whimsy is all about having a little more fun, for example, layering hair accessories or bedazzling items with rhinestones.”

She continued, “I love this beauty trend because it’s one that doesn’t mean you have to completely transform your look; anyone can jump on the bandwagon without major investment. It can be as simple as adding a few gems to your nail art, bows in your hair, or a touch of sparkle and color around the eyes.”

Three Whimsy Beauty Ideas

Bedazzled nails – 3D rhinestones, colorful gems and pearls can be added to a manicure for a layer of pizzazz. Taurua says this looks best on a sheer or pastel base or a pink BIAB nail.

Bedazzled hair – Gems can be added to a slicked-back ponytail by using strong-hold gel or hairspray to create a smooth and tacky base, with flat-back rhinestones pressed onto the hair.

Embellished brows and eyes – Flat-back rhinestones, miniature faux pearls or loose face glitter around the eyes or brows can be added using clear eyelash glue or Vaseline and a pair of tweezers for a playful look.
